Karim in Noida / Indirapuram / Vaishali

July 13, 2008 By: Smita Category: Noida / Ghaziabad

The legendary Karim’s of Jama Masjid in Delhi has opened yet another branch for its customers on this side of Hindon. Apparently it seems like a breeding season for Karim’s branches. They have come up in Malviya Nagar (where chic-fish used to be) and now in a rather skeptical site on the NH-24, the Hapur Road from Delhi.

If you’re coming straight from the Nizamuddin bridge through the Delhi-UP border, this would fall on your right, about a kilometer and a half from the chungi point.

At first you may wonder what on earth is a Karim outlet doing in the time-and-again notorious Khora Village, and whether it really, is, THE Karim that one swears by. And then you read the fine details like estd. 1913 and you peep inside to see the similar familiar plastic neelkamal chairs with the red velvet seats and convince yourself on its pedigree.

Lazeez in Kanchan Junga Market, Sector - 53 Noida

May 27, 2008 By: nandanjha Category: Groceries, Noida / Ghaziabad

The corner butcher shops are difficult to find. Even though there are some which still exist (like the one in Lal Market, Sector 37 or in Sec-12, Sabzi Mandi) but gradually big boys with swankier shops are taking over. I like to eat home cooked mutton and I prefer to buy from a shop where I can see the mutton being chopped. That helps me to gauge the quality and also allows me to choose, i.e. whether I want from ‘pichhli raan’ or I need ‘chaap’ or ‘boties’ or may be some ‘kaleji’. I somehow is yet to be get comfortable with tinned mutton.

Dossier on Amrapali Green Market in Indirapuram

December 12, 2007 By: nandanjha Category: Malls in general, Noida / Ghaziabad

Indirapuram is coming up pretty well and now there are lots of apartment complexes which are habituated or would closely be. One of the standard features which is a new thing, has been that each of the housing apartments has a market place. So whether its Mahagun Mansion or Amrapali Green or HRC, each has it own small set. Though there are some which has none like SPS, Amrapali Royal but there are more which has one. Amrapali Green market is one of the oldest since they started almost as the first one and they have been able to add lot of shops over time. So I thought that I would write a small dossier on what you can get in Amrapali Green Market in Indirapuram.

Mothercare in Noida - A BOON for new aspiring mothers

July 26, 2007 By: Smita Category: Kids Stuff, Noida / Ghaziabad

I had an experience yesterday. Thanks to my workplace, I everyday pass by the ‘The Great India Place’, the swankiest-latest entrant in the out-of-home shopping-cum-entertainment business. I was aware of ‘mothercare’, UK’s leading maternity, infant and baby products chain of stores who have a fantastic and really classy range to offer, their products now available in our very own Noida at Shopper’s Stop at THE Great India Place and decided to check out.

I hate to pay 30 bucks for parking at a mall that makes you walk so much, but I have no choice.

Reliance Fresh in Indirapuram

July 24, 2007 By: Smita Category: Groceries, Noida / Ghaziabad

Reliance Retail has opened yet another grocery chain store - Reliance Fresh - in Gaur Gravity, the shopping arcade in Gaur Green City premises in Indirapuram. It is a well-stocked store with lot of fresh veggies and their sub varities, this store seemed better (and fresher) than their outlet in Shopprix in Sector-61, Noida.

Although the chain claims to offer almost all grocery items that, say, you’d get a nearby kiryana store, there still aren’t many brands or variants available. Why, you get better deals at a food bazaar (that’s about 300 mtrs from this outlet, at Shipra Mall) on most of the products - juices, rice, flour, bisquits blah! blah! But are we willing to go all the way to Shipra Mall, park… and pay for it, walk all that much and queue for billing?

The other thing lacking is fresh rice batters and non-veg items (which perhaps may not happen at all from the staunch gujju stable… but then there are A1 plazas that offer non-vegetarian food all the time everywhere). They may also get some new trollies for kids to sit…(I KNOW I am asking for too much, besides sounding like an aunty…but customer is the king and I am only expressing my right to opinion), they apparently have these very nice and fancy trollies, in which you can put these fine, good quality red baskets, but what do you do with kids?!!

All in all, the approach to this place is excellent and at least now when there is enough place for parking, this is the most hassle-free place to buy from. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, though they can do with more cash counters. For the resource-starved Indirapuram, Subhiksha at Amrapali was quite a farce, so Reliance Fresh - makes a lot of sense.
